Key Responsibilities:

Office Management:

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the office, ensuring a professional and efficient
  working environment.
• Manage office supplies, facilities, and liaise with external vendors and service
  providers.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety policies and FCA/industry requirements
  where relevant.
• Organise team meetings, training sessions, and company events.
• Support onboarding processes for new staff, including IT and compliance setup.

Personal Assistant Duties:

• Provide comprehensive administrative and PA support to the Managing Director.
• Manage complex calendars, scheduling meetings and internal/external appointments.
• Arrange business travel, accommodation, and meeting logistics.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and confidential documents related to clients,
  regulatory requirements, and board meetings.
• Act as a point of contact between management and clients/staff, ensuring professional
  and timely communication.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Proven experience in a PA and/or Office Manager role, ideally within the insurance,
  financial services, or professional services industry.
• Strong understanding of business confidentiality and regulatory awareness (FCA
  experience desirable).
• Excellent organisational and multitasking skills with a proactive mindset.
• Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and
  general office systems.
• Ability to work independently and handle a broad range of responsibilities.

Other notable areas include food processing and direct sales, contributing around 12%, while leisure activities like camping and holiday rentals represent about 10%.

On the 17th of August we attended Minsterley Show at the Manor Farm Showground in Cruckton, Shropshire. It was a busy day, with a great atmosphere and the promotion of our agricultural insurance services was a great success. We were also delighted to have a collection bucket on the stand on behalf of Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

Throughout the day, KLF welcomed both existing and new clients alike. It was brilliant to meet everyone who attended and showed their support for the business. We appreciate the friendly, community atmosphere that was created and sustained. It was fantastic to see so many people coming together and celebrating agricultural communities and businesses. From the morning all the way to the evening the stand received all sorts of visitors who came by to support us. Even after the main attractions of the show had finished, many clients put the time and effort in to come and say hello. From the show, we were delighted to chat with, and secure new clients who were interested in our agricultural insurance services.

Minsterley show simultaneously became a great way to not only, display our services to show attendees but, also an opportunity where KLF were highlighting the importance of insurance and safety for farmers and those working within rural businesses. These topics caught the attention of members of the public who aren’t even working in any agriculturally based sectors. We are pleased that they passed by and decided to drop in. Each visitor asked questions, read our information and showed a genuine interest into the world of rural safety. This was a bonus for the KLF team as we enjoyed the chance to engage with and inform members of the public about life in agricultural industries especially, about some of the challenges and considerations that can come with it.

All the work that went into making our presence at the show an inviting and entertaining, paid off when we were awarded with 3rd place for our stand presentation out of all the pitches that were exhibiting at the show!

KLF would like to extend a special thank you to our brilliant Hughes Catering team who also worked hard throughout the day to make sure our clients were attended to and had some fantastic food and drink. On behalf of KLF they helped ensure the event ran smoothly and become the success that it was.

A big well done to the organisers too, it’s not easy creating a new site after almost 30 years in the same location.  Despite a few hiccups for the show team, our day at Minsterley Show was definitely one to remember. We are glad that our passion, dedication and expertise in supporting rural businesses was able to shine. The whole team is excited to see what is to come at next year’s show.

Since the 1970s, employment in agriculture has fallen from 400,000 to below 200,000. This decline has reduced the number of people directly or indirectly connected to the land. The UK population has grown by over 10 million, further diluting rural connections. As fewer families have rural roots, public attitudes towards farming and the countryside have shifted, influenced by media, social changes, and a lack of education.

Those unacquainted with the tough choices in rural life, such as managing wildlife for biodiversity or balancing food production with nature, see the world differently. In the 1970s, most people had direct links to the land; today, few do, and their attitudes reflect this.

While we cannot return to the past, we must adapt to maintain the social license essential for wildlife management and farming. The differences between town and country may not be as vast as they seem. Regardless of background, most share a love for the countryside and its wildlife. Farmers, as land custodians, play a crucial role in maintaining our landscape and feeding the nation.

As the election draws near, it is imperative that rural voices are heard and considered in the broader political discourse. The countryside may have become a smaller part of the national picture, but its significance remains vital. If we are to have food security and sustainability, with an ever-growing population, we must ensure that the rural way of life continues to be valued and protected in the years to come.

Recent reports highlight the dire situation faced by farmers, prompting serious contemplation of quitting the industry altogether.

The combination of relentless rain, declining profits and a volatile landscape for inputs and outputs has severely impacted our farmers. Flooded fields and compromised crop yields present seemingly insurmountable challenges, compounded by economic pressures and uncertainties.

Next week’s Farm to Fork Summit (14^th May) at Number 10 aims to tackle pressing issues like food security, farming profitability, and the mental health crisis among agricultural workers. Yet, the question remains whether it will yield genuine support or mere political rhetoric.

With 95% of UK farmers under 40 citing poor mental health as a significant concern, (study by the Farm Safety Foundation), there’s hope for tangible assistance to weather the ongoing storms.

By 2050, an estimated nine billion people will require food, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable agricultural practices and resilient supply chains in the UK and beyond.

Furthermore, experts warn of the long-term consequences of adverse weather patterns, highlighting potential implications for food security and agricultural sustainability. Reduced yields due to delayed planting could impact not only farmers’ incomes but also consumers reliant on domestically produced food. These challenges underscore the importance of implementing resilient agricultural practices and investing in infrastructure to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

The floods have inflicted widespread damage on farmland, livestock, and infrastructure, hindering farmers’ ability to conduct essential farming operations. Urgent government support and industry collaboration are essential to help farmers whether the immediate effects of catastrophic weather and ensure the resilience of the agricultural sector in the face of future challenges. Financial aid, improved infrastructure, and better flood management strategies from the Environment Agency, to mitigate future flooding events are of paramount importance. Without adequate support, many fear they will struggle to recover, posing a significant threat to the stability of the agricultural industry and the UK’s food supply chain.

Farmers exacerbated by extreme weather events, which are severely impacting their livelihoods, and the agricultural sector, cannot always get the insurance cover they desperately need. Collaborative efforts with policymakers and industry stakeholders are underway to address systemic challenges and improve access to insurance options for farmers facing weather-related risks, which are likely to increase as climate change progresses.
